Substance Abuse Treatment Programs in Florida
Addiction is a chronic and progressive disease that millions of people suffer from each year. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 48.7 million people dealt with a substance use disorder in 2022.[1]
Addiction only gets worse as time goes on, so you should seek treatment as soon as possible. One of the biggest barriers to substance abuse treatment is the fear of the unknown. That said, knowing what to expect during rehab can motivate you to get the help you need.
During an addiction treatment program, you will have access to individualized treatment planning. This means that the services you participate in will be based on your needs. Most treatment plans include a combination of medical detox and evidence-based behavioral therapies.
At Agape Behavioral Healthcare, we offer a variety of substance abuse treatment programs in Florida, from inpatient rehab to intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) and traditional outpatient rehab. No matter what level of care you need, we are here to help you begin your recovery journey.
Signs of Addiction
Sometimes identifying that you are struggling with addiction can be difficult. This disease makes it easy to ignore the red flags and remain in denial about your relationship with substances. Thankfully, there are ways to break the cycle and recognize that you need help.
Mental health professionals use the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) to diagnose mental health conditions like substance use disorders. According to the DSM, the signs of addiction include:[2]
- Using a substance in larger amounts or for longer than you intended
- Wanting to cut down or stop using drugs or alcohol but being unsuccessful
- Spending a lot of time obtaining or using substances
- Experiencing urges and cravings to use drugs or alcohol
- Failing to meet responsibilities at home, school, or work because of substance abuse
- Continuing to use despite facing social or relationship issues
- Losing interest in previously enjoyed activities to have more time to abuse drugs and alcohol
- Continuing to use substances despite experiencing physical or mental health issues as a direct result
- Using drugs or alcohol in risky situations like while driving a car
- Having to increase the amount of a substance you use to experience the desired effect
- Experiencing withdrawal symptoms when you stop using drugs or alcohol
If you are having a hard time determining whether you have a substance use disorder, Agape Behavioral Healthcare is here to assist you. Our addiction specialists can provide you with an in-depth assessment to determine whether you are suffering from addiction and what kind of treatment would best suit your needs.
Our Florida Substance Abuse Treatment Programs
We offer a full continuum of care to ensure every client’s needs are met.
Our levels of care include:
Inpatient Treatment
Inpatient treatment, also known as residential treatment, is a type of program where clients live at the treatment facility for the duration of their care. Clients typically live in private and semi-private living spaces with staff on the premises.
This level of care provides a structured and intensive approach to treating mental health conditions and co-occurring disorders. With around-the-clock care and support, clients are immersed in a therapeutic and supportive setting in which they can put their daily responsibilities on hold to focus on their well-being.
Day/Night PHP Treatment
Partial hospitalization programs (PHPs) or day/night programs are the highest level of outpatient care offered. At Agape, our PHP program is comprehensive and rigorous, offering everything you’ll need to achieve long-term recovery.
During our day/night partial hospitalization program, you can expect evidence-based therapies, sobriety-focused activities, community building, and professional support for substance abuse or mental health. Each day you will have a full schedule of activities and services that are specifically designed to help you recover from addiction.
Intensive Outpatient Programming
Intensive outpatient programming (IOP) is considered one step down from PHP. While IOP offers many of the same services, it requires a bit more personal accountability and motivation.
During our IOP program, you will attend therapy sessions 3 to 5 days per week for several hours each day. You might participate in individual therapy, group counseling, and addiction education groups during your time at the facility.
You can transition into our IOP program after completing PHP or use it as a standalone treatment option. Our addiction specialists can help you determine the severity of your substance use disorder and which programs you should take advantage of.
Outpatient Programming
Outpatient programs are less intensive than IOP, which means you’ll have less supervision from addiction and healthcare professionals. They are usually used in combination with a PHP or IOP program.
During outpatient programming, you will participate in individual therapy, group counseling, and family therapy. If medication is part of your treatment plan, the doctor who prescribed it will monitor your usage, and side effects, while ensuring it is effective.
Because outpatient is the least intensive option we offer, it’s important to determine whether this type of program is right for you. Signs that outpatient is the right choice include:
- Having a mild to moderate substance use disorder
- Being able to function without a high level of support in your daily life
- Needing a flexible treatment option to continue working or attending school
- Being committed to attending all of your outpatient treatment sessions
- Having a supportive and safe home environment to reside in
- Using outpatient as part of a continuum of care
What to Expect During Addiction Treatment
We provide the most advanced facilities available so that our patients have access to the best possible chance of achieving long-term recovery. Our drug rehab program in Florida has been carefully crafted by our world-class team of addiction specialists so that individuals have all the resources they need to make significant progress in their journey toward healing.
Intake & Assessment
The first step in treatment is intake and assessment. The addiction specialists will have you sign medical release forms, get your insurance information, and have you look over other important documents. After that is completed, you will begin your assessment.
During the assessment, you will be asked questions about your physical and mental health as well as your history of substance abuse. This information gathered will be used to create an individualized treatment plan.
Medical Detox
Medical detox is the process of treating withdrawal symptoms as your body rids itself of drugs and alcohol. The medications and treatments used to keep you stable will depend on what substance you are addicted to. Typically, detox involves administering IV fluids, replacing vitamins, monitoring vital signs, and taking medications that lessen withdrawal symptoms.
Behavioral Therapy
Behavioral therapy is used to help you address the root causes of your addiction. You will learn how to change negative patterns of thinking and behavior. Lastly, behavioral therapy is ideal for adopting healthy coping mechanisms that replace the need to abuse substances.
During addiction treatment, you will participate in individual therapy, group counseling, and family therapy. If you have any co-occurring mental health conditions, you will attend specialized therapy for your specific disorder.
Individualized Approach
At Agape Behavioral Healthcare, we understand that everyone is different. Instead of using a one-size-fits-all approach, we create individualized treatment plans. In other words, the services you participate in will be based solely on your needs.
Your treatment plan might include medical detox, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), dual diagnosis services, and more.
